Product Frequently Asked Questions

What is Frankincense?

Frankincense is resin — dried and crystallized sap —  from a unique tree called the Boswellia. The primary use of frankincense is the same today as it was 2000 years ago: it is burned as incense to release a sweet aroma.

What is Myrrh?

Myrrh is also a resin from the Cammiphora tree. It was used in ancient Egypt during the mummification of the Pharaohs and was thought to provide eternal life. Myrrh can also be burned as incense and has a warm, musky fragrance.

Is the gold real?

Yes. It is real 23 karat gold. We use 23 karat rather than 24 karat to make the gold flakes slightly more durable and to prevent the gold pieces from breaking into small flakes.

What is the size:

The standard single box set is 6 ¾ inches long by 3 ¾ inchs wide by 2 inches high. The set weighs 1.2 lbs.

What is included in the sets?

Each set comes tissue wrapped and beautifully packaged in its own gift box.

The frankincense and myrrh come in zip-lock pouches that can also be used to store the frankincense and myrrh when not in use.

In addition to the chests and gold, frankincense and myrrh, the sets include a Certificate of Authenticity and a Gold Embossed Display Card that tells the story of the Three Kings.

What are the names of the Three Kings and what did each one bring?

Melchior brought Gold
Balthazar brought Frankincense
Caspar brought Myrrh

Do we really know if there were Three Kings?

We cannot say for certain and there is no direct reference in the Bible to the number of kings;  however, as early as the third century,  there were written accounts naming three kings as Balthazar, Melchior and Caspar.

Where did the kings come from?

We don’t know for sure,  but as long ago as the 7th century it was thought that the kings came from the three known continents (Melchior coming from Arabia which is in Asia, Balthazar coming from Sheba which is in Asia and Africa and Caspar coming from Tarsus which is in present-day Turkey.)
